Jeff Burns.

Jeff Burns is an intermediate breeder of budgies from Newport S.Wales

He first kept budgerigars in his twenties and after a long break returned to the hobby around 2008.
For the first few years after his return he kept a modest stud in a 10ft x 8ft bird room, but after gaining significant successes’ as a beginner he got “the bug” and decided to fully commit to the hobby. His current bird room is 16ft x 9ft and consists of 18 plastic breeding cages, a substantial flight which leads to an outdoor flight area and a half flight which houses the youngsters.

A VIEW FROM THE OUTSIDE ............

After buying budgies from several sources, Jeff met Ron Wiltshire, who he admits has been a huge influence to him. Ron persuaded Jeff to join “The Heads of the Valley B.S.” and he has been a valuable and well respected member ever since. Jeff is currently (2016) the clubs president.
Jeff has achieved great success on the show bench at both beginner and novice statuses, winning many cc’s and higher awards including several best in shows. As of 2016 Jeff has decided to show as an intermediate where he is hoping to continue his success and take his stud of budgies to the next level.

Although Jeff keeps most varieties of budgie, he admits to having a preference for normal greys, spangles and pieds. He usually has birds for sale and is always happy to help and advise others.  If you wish to contact him call 01633 668420, Email jeffburns@ntlworld.com or contact him via his facebook profile https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100008910785175

Jeffs Top Tip

"If I had to give any tip it would have to be, When looking for an out cross always look at the family don't expect to get the best visual bird, breeders won't part with them unless your happy to pay silly money. Always look at brothers and sisters of these birds as they are carrying exactly the same genes, and there is no reason why they shouldn't produce stock better than themselves, if they are paired to the right bird. If you can get a cock and a hen from the same mating so much the better pair them well and bring the youngsters back together. Always be prepared to have good and bad seasons, if you think it's all going to happen overnight it maybe the wrong hobby for you"
